Tadeusz Miciński

Tadeusz Miciński (November 9, 1873 - February 1918) was a Polish poet and writer in the Young Poland period. His writings are also viewed as a precursor to surrealism and was a leading writer of Polish expressionism. Miciński studied history and philosophy at Jagiellonian University, during which he became interested in the occult, Satanism, and books of secret knowledge. He also fought in World War I and was murdered for unknown circumstances in the Mogilyovsky Uyzed of the Russian Empire.

His writing expressed gnosticism, fatalism, and the idea that selected individuals are given the possession of a soul and eternal life. Miciński participated in poetic mystery theater, in which drama merges with political and historical-physical ideas in a mystical, allegorical dimension. His verses have been set to music by Karol Szymanowski and Ludomir Różycki.
